Countries trade goods with each other so they can boost their local product sales and increase the exchange value of their currencies. Ideally, countries are exporting more consumer goods, industrial equipment, and other products than they are importing because this indicates that there is a steady stream of money coming into the country rather than out of it. Industrialization, advanced transportation, globalization, multinational corporations, and outsourcing are all having a major impact on importing of goods. Increasing international trade is the usually primary meaning of "globalization". The regulation of importing and international trade is done through the World Trade Organization at the global level, and through several other regional arrangements such as MERCOSUR in South America, NAFTA between the United States, Canada and Mexico, and the European Union between 25 independent states.
